After reading about Architizer’s pop-up wedding chapel design competition celebrating the newly passed legislature allowing same-sex marriage in NYC, we pulled together a ramshackle design team to conceptualize a submission within 24-hours (to meet the competition deadline). We were notified the next day that we won(!) and that we had one week to produce and install our design in Central Park. We constructed our little chapel in the ICRAVE way (with an amazing degree of accuracy to the rendering) using a steel frame, wire mesh ceiling and 2,000 strips of acrylic cut to varying lengths. The final product was a unique escape from its surroundings, providing a private sanctuary for a dozen ceremonial unions.
